Choosing The Right Lampshade for Your Home
Dependant on the sort of person you are, selecting a lampshade may or may not be a challenging endeavour. Even if you are an experienced "lampshader", it doesn't hurt to read a bit more. In this blog I will outline some of the factors that you should consider when choosing a lampshade.
Colour
The first thing to consider is the colour. You may see a lampshade which you absolutely adore, go to select the option to change the colour to the one you want and see that it doesn't have it. This is not a reason to still buy the lampshade, as there are plenty of lampshades out there which will suit your needs. It's either that or buy the lamp shade and change the décor/ colour scheme of the room it will be in... If you had a room with red décor, you probably wouldn't buy a green lampshade.
For that reason, you should ensure you choose a colour which will compliment the other colours in the room. If you want the shade to be the focal point, then I'd suggest choosing a bold, visually striking variation of the colour/ colour scheme you wish to have.
Size
Another factor to weigh in is the lampshade's size. Before choosing, you should first consider the space you have to work with. If you have a small room and a large lampshade, it will automatically become the focus of the room whether this was its intended purpose or not. You'd probably find your eyes continuously drifting to it. This works vice versa. You wouldn't want to put a small lampshade in a large room; it'd make it seem bare, dependant on the décor of the rest of the room.
Be Different
When people look for lampshades, they assume that they are only for conventional rooms such as the lounge, kitchen, or the bedroom. Lampshades can also add an ambient feel to your bathroom, basement, and if you're feeling really quirky, your garage. Bring an aesthetic to all your rooms in your home. Be bold. For example, you may put a lampshade in the bathroom over the bath, making it the center of attention. It adds a warm glow to your bathing experience. Having the right lampshade can change an old dusty laundry room into a safe haven to wash your underwear.
Fire! Fire!
When fitting your chosen lampshade, you should ensure safe distance between the light bulb and the shade itself. Light bulbs give off heat, guys! You may be able to buy energy efficient bulbs which don't get that hot, but it's always better to stay on the safer sides of things, right?
If your bulb is long, you should consider adjusting the size of the harp on the shade or use a different sized fitter which sits above the light bulb. Or you could simply just buy a smaller bulb. Nobody wants to buy a fancy, new, and expensive lampshade, only to ruin it by something as minor as forgetting to use the right bulb/ adjustments.
I'm sure there are much more, complex factors you can follow, but follow these few basic steps and I'm sure you'll be just fine! Here are a few of the lampshades which I feel work in almost all rooms:
