Kayan. The outcome of the collaboration between Plumen and Formaliz3d.

The Kayan Pendant Lampshade was unveiled at Milan Design Week 2015 and it comes as a brand new product crafted and perfected by two great companies.

Plumen are the originators of the first ever Designer low energy light bulbs. They took a familiar design and simply transformed it to create a desirable and economic object to present and appreciate.

The Plumen range of lightbulbs were released in 2010 and has since grown to include Drop Cap Pendant sets and other lampshades. The Plumen 001 was awarded the Brit Insurance Design of the Year by the Design Museum in London and the prestigious Black Pencil at the D&AD awards in 2011.

Formaliz3d is a company formed of three industrial designers who came together during their days at university and founded the business not long after graduating. The main focus of Formaliz3d is geared towards creating lighting and furnishings for the design industry through 3D printing.

Formaliz3d broke into the design industry with their Rumbles lighting range and Plumen noticed and instantly fell in love. They then approached them and discussed a possible partnership. It only took a few days and Formaliz3d had sent Plumen various printed ideas which they then tested with their bulbs. After a few alterations and back and forthing, Plumen and Formaliz3d had created their first collaborative product.

The Kayan 3D shade was specifically developed to ensure the smaller Plumen models could sit nicely through tailored 3D modelling. This is a giant leap for Plumen into a favourable new technology.

The minimalist form of the Kayan works beautifully in uniform with the Plumen Baby and 002 light bulbs to create a visually stunning effect.
